Overall: 8.50 out of 10

In addition, Book 1 The Dream Haunters received a 9.25 out of 10 Critic’s Review in 2024!

Assessment:

Plot/Idea: Mary creates a metaphysical world of mirrors, portals, and dreams that will intrigue readers. Strong themes of self-reflection and discovery unfold through the eyes of Hannah Skye and her aunt, Jewelia, hosting a celebration to honor the 999 portal’s opening. As the gathering progresses, plans go awry and guests begin to disappear, launching the pair into a journey of danger, illusion, and magic. Pacing is slightly uneven during the dream sequences, making the plot sluggish at times, but Mary delivers rich fantasy and an engaging mystery.

Prose: Mary starts slowly, writing atmospheric prose that allows readers to feel as if they have stepped into the novel and joined its opening celebrations. Though the book’s mystical world could be confusing, Mary avoids over-explanations, opting instead for elegant, descriptive prose.

Originality: The unique use of mirrors and portals coupled with dreams reshapes this mystery into a genre-blending fusion of fantasy, thriller, and mystical allure.

Character/Execution: Mary’s characters are juggling loss, portals, witchcraft, and self-growth, all while trying to solve a time-sensitive mystery. She delivers a cast that is both inquisitive and knowledgeable, capably intertwining the metaphysical with reality.
