I submitted my debut novel, The Dream Haunters: A Metaphysical Mystery of Magick, Book 1 of the Witches of Maple Hollow Trilogy in June 2024 for the Book Life Prize Mystery/Thriller genre. The tagline of which is Discover the Key. Open the Portal. Save our Legacy.
I was thrilled to receive a 9.25 out of 10 overall rating.
The Critic’s Report I received gave me the validation I sought as a new writer and positive feedback as I continued to complete the rest of the trilogy. I missed the quarter finals by one, coming in #11 in the Mystery category, but I was honored just to be included in the list. As a result of my high score, I was recently invited by BookLife to feature my work in the curated BookLife Elite Collection featuring top indie-published books, allowing me to receive royalties and increase discovery in all libraries. I also decided to list my debut in Publisher’s Weekly PW Select and it was chosen for the Indie Author Spotlight the month of my release.
I include my BookLife Prize rating and blurb everywhere, including at the top of my Amazon book description and in my social promotions, one sheet and media marketing. I really appreciated how the report commented on the plot, prose, originality, characters, and execution. Such as “The Dream Haunters is a highly inventive work, packed to the brim with surprise portals, ancient traditions, and dream worlds. Mary’s work benefits from sharp and dynamic storytelling that is gripping from start to finish. The magical world of Maple Hollow is brilliantly realized, with every nook and cranny overflowing with vibrant energy and atmosphere. A compelling metaphysical adventure story.”
While the feedback for The Dream Haunters was overwhelmingly positive, earlier this year, I submitted the second book in the trilogy, The Dream Mirrors, which received an 8.5 out of 10 ranking. I used the feedback on the pacing of Book 2 to tighten up Book 3, The Dream Dimensions, which was just released in October and which I plan to submit to The BookLife Prize for Fiction in 2026!
